Gavin competes in track and field throwing events, his favorite being shotput. He has also earned his third-degree black belt in taekwondo. Gavin excels academically and has been a member of both the National Junior Honor Society and Robotics club. Gavin plans to pursue a career that allows him to use his leadership skills and love for science and math.

Gavin was in DKA when arriving at the hospital in 2020. Learning he would have to live with type 1 diabetes for life, he decided to keep a positive mindset and live his best life every day. Breakthrough T1D provided critical guidance and support while Gavin learned to deal with this lifelong condition. As a result, Gavin is in his fourth year serving as a Youth Ambassador and enjoys mentoring other youth who have recently been diagnosed so they can see that anything is possible.
