Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 5

Annika, a 16-year-old going into her junior year of high school, was diagnosed with T1D when she was 5 years old in May of 2014. She leads an active and fun-filled life, playing volleyball with both her school and her club team, spending time in the outdoors of Alaska, traveling anywhere she can, and enjoying new movies. She looks forward to pursuing a career in biology, hopefully helping wildlife. She loves to spend time with her friends and family, as well as her two cats.

Annika’s commitment to the T1D community is evident. She was a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador in Utah and has actively engaged in several advocacy meetings alongside her parents. Additionally, she’s an avid volunteer, including participating in Breakthrough T1D Ride. Although living with T1D can be a struggle, she is determined to embrace life to the fullest, seeking rich experiences and opportunities wherever she can find them.
