Day 1: Arriving and Uniting

Arriving from across the country, delegates with type 1 diabetes assembled in Washington D.C. today for the 6th meeting of JDRF's Children's
Congress. Joining as one powerful and convincing voice, these
delegates performed the "Promise to Remember Me" song, led by world
famous composer Alan Silvestri and JDRF advocate Jane Adams.

This performance was followed by state delegation photos with ESPN sportscaster
Brian Kenny, whose daughter was a fellow delegate of mine back in 2007.  Day 1 of Children's Congress finished with an opening banquet dinner,
highlighting the immense amount of progress made by the five preceding
Children's Congresses, and JDRF as a whole over the past ten years.

But the high point of the first day was the 2009 Children's Congress Chair, Cynthia Ford, inspiring the 152 U.S. and international delegates to unite in their mission and make sure they are honest and
real to their legislators when telling their stories of how diabetes
affects every second of their lives.
