Age: 12
Age at T1D diagnosis: 8

As a Breakthrough T1D Ambassador, Emily has been part of a basketball tournament, raffles, sponsorship events, and fundraisers. She also involved her whole school in raising awareness for T1D by hosting a cotton candy sale.

Technology has helped Emily manage her T1D so much. She hopes that with future technology, she can spend less time thinking about T1D and more time doing what she loves, including dance. She does jazz, modern, ballet, lyrical, and musical theater dancing almost daily! She enjoys running, track and field, hanging out with her friends, and making crafts. Living with T1D is tough, but it hasn’t stopped Emily from anything since her diagnosis at the age of 8 on her second day of third grade.

Emily once wrote a letter to herself as motivation: “I know it seems hard for you sometimes, but things will get better!” She is so grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada in Washington, D.C.
