Age: 15
Age at T1D diagnosis: 8
Anisha was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 8, but she has never let it slow her down. Over the years, she has grown stronger both physically and mentally, learning to manage her blood sugar effectively with her insulin pump while excelling in academics, sports, music, and community service. She is an accomplished clarinetist, earning a letter in band and participating in the All-State Music Festival. A dedicated taekwondo martial artist, she also plays tennis and trains in classical Indian dance. Anisha actively participates in school clubs, takes on leadership roles, and has been deeply inspired by her own hospital experience to pursue a career as a physician.
Anisha works to raise awareness and improve access to diabetes care, especially for underserved children in New Mexico. She has met with Senators and House Representatives to push for better access to insulin pumps and CGMs and has organized gatherings of children with T1D and their families. Despite the challenges of T1D, Anisha remains resilient and determined to make a meaningful impact in healthcare and the lives of children facing similar challenges.
