Age at T1D diagnosis: 13

Bryan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during the pandemic. He has personally witnessed the significant challenges faced by youth with T1D and their families, such as when he lost two weeks of memory due to severe hypoglycemia. Motivated, he founded Type 1 Together Initiative (T1TI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to nurturing an inclusive and supportive community for youth grappling with T1D. The project aims to empower each member of the community to overcome the hurdles presented by T1D and lead fulfilling lives.

Beyond advocacy, he is also a driven innovator, determined to harness the powers of technology to solve real-world problems like diabetes management. He has been invited to present his research in forecasting future blood glucose values using deep learning at the MIT IEEE Undergraduate Research Technology Conference, the Washington State Department of Health, and the IDF World Diabetes Congress. Ultimately, Bryan envisions a career where he bridges the gap between scientific discovery and public health, developing technologies that benefit people like him while advocating for systemic change.
