Mia remembers her first JDRF Walk. “The first year, I was only five, and I thought that because we did the Walk and raised money, a cure would be found right away and we wouldn’t have to do the Walk again. There isn’t a cure yet, so we are walking again.” Until a cure is found, Mia and her friends who also have T1D—the trio call themselves the Power Pump Girls—will continue their efforts to raise awareness and funds for JDRF.

Mia started a group called Diabetes Can Crush, which collects cans and recycles them, donating the money raised to JDRF. She loves roller skating, bike riding, swimming, and playing with her little brother. Someday, Mia would like to become a doctor or nurse so that she can work with kids who have T1D.
