"I am proud to say that I have not let diabetes beat me," says Abigail, diagnosed at age five. Tragically, she lost an uncle to complications of diabetes, but has stayed strong with help from family. "My family and I have faced ups and downs with this disease, but I cannot thank them enough for all of their help and support." Abigail's dream is to pay that support forward by becoming an endocrinologist and helping others who have type 1. She has volunteered at a local hospital and at a JDRF Gala, has attended JDRF Walks, and organized a fundraising walk at her school. Abigail's hobbies include playing and captaining her school's field hockey team, playing the French horn, dancing, swimming, and participating in Student Council, for which she was elected Secretary. As a delegate, she wants to add her voice to the unique personal stories about type 1.
