Jamie has lived with diabetes since the age of one, and is using her experience with the disease to help others and spread awareness. She mentors a newly diagnosed 11-year-old and participates in a family support group, watching over children with diabetes and addressing concerns from parents. Jamie has also met with her Congresswoman through JDRF's Promise to Remember Me Campaign. Jamie was the inspiration for the Yale University Walk team – raising over $195,000 in nine years – and later started her own team, called "Jamie's Team," raising more than $50,000 for JDRF. She believes the more effort she gives to a cause, the more it gives in return. "I am very connected with the diabetes community and can bring a lot of information and insight to Children's Congress 2011," she says. Jamie, an Honor student, is also a Girl Scout, and enjoys photography, graphic design, and theater.
