Alex is one busy kid. He was recognized as "Student of the Month" in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, and still finds time to play hockey and soccer, ride his bike, and spend time with friends. He also builds Legos and remote control toys, and is interested in architecture. Diagnosed when he was seven, Alex uses an insulin pump and takes responsibility for testing his blood sugar and taking his shots. He still gets some guidance, however, from his mom, who also has type 1 diabetes. Alex is hopeful that one day, he won't have to constantly worry about his diabetes. "I hope that Congress will help us find a cure," he says.
