“Imagine a toddler who loves to dance, sing, and bother her big sister.” That little girl was Alexis, who also grew up learning how to help her older sister, Cerriah, manage her T1D—running to get juice when Cerriah was hypoglycemic. When Alexis was diagnosed with T1D—the seventh person in her family to have the disease—she knew that from then on, she had to be brave not just for her sister, but for herself as well.
In the years since, Alexis has shown courage—and energy—to spare. She has volunteered at JDRF Walks and Galas in both Florida and Illinois and participates in the family Walk team. For dedicating more than 1,800 hours of volunteer work, Alexis received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. “Community service is my passion in life!” she says.
