Anelie is originally from Ethiopia and remembers being rushed to the hospital around age 5 and being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At that time, the country had very few resources for living with T1D. She was adopted by an American family at the age of 7. Nine years later, she is thriving with the help of the many medical advances in diabetes care.

She loves God, singing, playing piano, helping others, and hanging out with friends. She recently went on a mission trip to Ethiopia and gifted a young girl with T1D some supplies and encouragement. She is hopeful that even more medical advances will help her and others around the world live life to the fullest.
