Each year since her diagnosis at age eight, Caitlyn has set up a lemonade stand in front of her house to raise money for JDRF. The one-day-a-year stand's revenue jumped from over $800 in its first year to over $1,300 the next. So far, through that and other efforts, Caitlyn has helped raise over $30,000 for diabetes research. Last year, Caitlyn won the Catholic Youth Organization's Shining Star Award for her positive impact on the community. Shortly after her type 1 diagnosis, Caitlyn was diagnosed with celiac disease. Despite the two diseases' challenges, Caitlyn's determined to keep playing soccer, tennis, and basketball, and to continue being a Girl Scout. She also loves reading biographies, and hopes her own story will one day inspire others to be brave in the face of challenges. As a delegate, Caitlyn wants to raise awareness about the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
