Caremy was diagnosed with T1D in November 2021, at the age of 7, after battling several respiratory illnesses. Aside from the large amount of information given to her and her family, one of the main things she remembers from those first few days was the incredible staff that helped her learn what her new normal was.

Since her diagnosis, Caremy has become an advocate for T1D awareness. She won the 2023 Carlisle Ice Queen Competition with T1D as her platform, taught her class each year what T1D is, created social media platforms, is an ambassador for several different groups, and has participated in various activities.

At home, when it is time for her devices to be changed, she likes to dance with her family to various songs to help relieve the stress and pain each time. Each year, her family celebrates her diaversary through different activities. At first, it seemed like such a weird thing to celebrate. However, she chooses to view it as celebrating her strength in this new lifelong journey. Her motto is “T1D chose the wrong girl to pick on because T1D doesn’t define me.”
