Cassandra is truly a JDRF pioneer. Along with her mom and grandma, she helped start six JDRF Walks in her local community, raising almost $200,000 for JDRF so far. She has also discussed the disease, which she has had since she was a toddler, on TV and in community groups. On top of her advocacy on behalf of JDRF, Cassandra educates her classmates and school staff by teaching a yearly class about T1D and its warning signs. When she grows up, Cassandra wants to become an ICU nurse helping diabetic kids, “because the nurses who helped me when I was in that state touched my heart dearly,” she says. She comes to JDRF Children’s Congress with a singular hope: to “lend my small hand in finding a cure.”
