Claire enjoys playing basketball, running track and volunteering with her church. She was very worried about her future when she was first diagnosed with T1D, but with help from JDRF she says, “I realized that although I have diabetes, it doesn’t have me.” Claire is the team captain of her JDRF One Walk team called ‘Claire’s Crusaders’. The group also hosts fundraisers including garage sales and pizza parties—and last year they raised $27,000 for JDRF. Claire also speaks to her school, church and local clubs about what it’s like to live with diabetes. She wants to be a pediatric endocrinologist when she’s older. Claire says, “One day I want to tell kids that they may have diabetes, but there are many options for curing it.”
