Age: 15
Age at T1D diagnosis: 11 months

Clara loves almost everything about nature and being outside. Given the chance, she will put on her headphones, listen to music, and set out to explore the beauty of our world. Her puppy, Mandy, is learning to accompany her on these adventures! Clara also enjoys playing viola in her school orchestra and percussion in the marching band. During marching season, she keeps juice and snacks with her in case she needs to treat a low. When she gets older, Clara wants to work with animals (preferably near the ocean so she can also go to the beach!).

Clara was diagnosed with T1D as a baby and doesn’t remember a time when T1D wasn’t a part of her life. Advocacy started early for her, explaining to her preschool and kindergarten classes why she had to wear a pump or have a snack at certain times. Her family refers to her diagnosis day as “Bravery Day” and celebrates all the accomplishments made and all the hardships endured because of T1D in their lives. Clara looks forward to a “Cure Day” and the celebration that will bring!
