Age: 15

Age at T1D diagnosis: 11

When Daan’s not spreading awareness about T1D, he enjoys tennis, skateboarding, gaming, drawing and making videos. After a scary allergic reaction to a particular type of insulin, Daan had to undergo testing to find a version that works well with his body. When asked why T1D advocacy is important to him, he says, “I’m very motivated to help people with T1D. So is my family, together we want to help create a world without T1D. That is why my wish is to go to JDRF Children’s Congress to create more awareness for T1D.” That’s also why Daan has inspired a group of his friends, who are also affected by T1D, to form a JDRF Walk team to help raise funds for life-changing T1D research.
