Elle shines when dancing, singing, and acting – in fact, she has performed in multiple productions at her local professional theater, and aspires to perform on Broadway. Elle was diagnosis with type 1 diabetes shortly after her eighth birthday. Now there is more to think about and take care of before she steps on stage. But Elle handles it all with grace, and is a remarkable advocate for diabetes research. She was a 2009 JDRF Children’s Congress delegate, has campaigned with Michael J. Fox on the importance of stem cell research, and even went to the White House for President Obama’s signing of the Executive Order allowing stem cell research. Elle, who also aspires to become an endocrinologist, says, “if we work together, our leaders will see how important it is that we find a cure.” That kind of dedication seems to run in the family – her mother, Stefany, is chairing 2011 Children’s Congress, and her grandmother, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), has greatly supported type 1 research as a legislator.
