Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

Diagnosed the day after her ninth birthday, Ellie has lived with T1D for 7 years. From the beginning, she got involved with Breakthrough T1D to connect with others living with T1D. She has had a Walk team since diagnosis, volunteered at the local Hope Gala, is an active Youth Ambassador, and has participated in four clinical trials to actively share her story, educate others, and fight for a cure. “Managing diabetes as a teen has felt even more challenging—especially in high school. I am confident and comfortable telling my story, and I want to educate others about the daily realities many people living with this disease face.”

Ellie plays both soccer and basketball for her high school and loves weightlifting. She enjoys drawing, painting, baking, cooking, and reading when not playing sports. She is thankful to grow up in such a beautiful state and loves hiking and exploring the Oregon Coast. She works hard in school, and although she is undecided on what she wants to do in the future, she plans to attend college and would love to be able to travel.
