Emmie calls her insulin pump and her continuous glucose monitor her “robots.” She recently shared her story about having T1D with her Girl Scouts Daisy Troop and earned a badge! She also makes videos for kids at her school about life with T1D, which are good practice for her hopeful future career as a teacher. Although she was diagnosed with T1D during the COVID-19 pandemic, Emmie has found many ways to be involved with JDRF and teach others about T1D, including through her One Walk team, Emmie’s Unicorns. Emmie’s mother was diagnosed with T1D a year after her and together with their family they advocate for a cure and have participated in clinical trials.
Emmie likes to play outside, play dress up, color, and go to school. She is very proud that she can do the monkey bars by herself and ride her bike without training wheels. She’s also proud to advocate for insulin affordability. “Everyone with T1D should be able to have insulin because it’s our medicine and everyone needs to take their medicine.”
