“With my family and friends helping me to get through it, I have made it!” says Evan of his life post–diagnosis. “It has been getting easier,” thanks to his OmniPod and CGM, which allow him to play sports. Evan’s a quarterback for his football team, a point guard on his basketball team, and pitcher and shortstop for his baseball team. Evan’s youngest brother Brett, who also lives with T1D, inspires his advocacy efforts today, including participating in school assemblies, running relay races on his diagnosis anniversary, and making YouTube videos to spread awareness. “It is important to get a cure for Brett,” says Evan. “I don’t want him to live with it day in and day out, because I know what it is like.”
