Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

Evie loves singing in her school choir and swimming competitively—she even made the district finals for swimming in several events. Performing at a high level in swimming and choir makes life with T1D extra challenging. She says, “I am a perfectionist, and I hate that diabetes is unpredictable. I hate that I can do everything right, and still end up with a blood sugar that is so wrong.“ In the past few years, Evie volunteered at the Bellevue TypeOneNation Summit, served as a JDRF Youth Ambassador and participated in the JDRF One Walk. Evie’s sister, Lilly, also has T1D and is a Delegate this year. Despite the challenges of T1D, Evie doesn’t let them stop her. “Diabetes is one more hurdle that I have to face that my opponents do not. Despite all of this, I have still managed to succeed.”
