Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Gilad is turning his passions into progress. As a committed cyclist, he organized a 50-mile charity ride benefiting T1D research. A talented student, Gilad researched prevention methods for a yearlong study, and met with a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to learn about beta cell encapsulation. He even presented his research to his school district to increase awareness. “I see Children’s Congress as yet another way I can actively advocate and do whatever it takes to ensure the continuation of the Special Diabetes Program. We are now closer than ever before to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes—or bringing about the prevention of it altogether.”

Gilad enjoys sports and plays three instruments: clarinet, piano, and guitar. He hopes to become a diplomat and a professional cyclist.
