Haley was diagnosed at age seven, and right away decided to administer her own shots. Still, she felt somewhat alone with the disease until her younger sister, Emma, was diagnosed a few years later.

Haley was diagnosed at age seven, and right away decided to administer her own shots. Still, she felt somewhat alone with the disease until her younger sister, Emma, was diagnosed a few years later. Says Haley, "…that is when I decided I would step up and help her and anyone with diabetes I could." She and Emma speak about diabetes to organizations, have been interviewed by local and state media, attend diabetes camp and fundraising events, and even presented Senator Byron Dorgan with the JDRF Legacy Award. The sisters also visit diabetes outreach clinics to support other children with diabetes. The Kramers are JDRF advocates and write letters to Congress asking for support. Haley enjoys golfing, volleyball, and soccer. Although it can be challenging to travel with diabetes, Haley's confident that working hard to manage her diabetes and learning Spanish will help her achieve her dream of visiting Argentina.
