Since she was five, Haley has known the struggles and fears of having type 1. But her resilience and her dedication to making a difference have allowed her to achieve great things. To fund diabetes research, Haley has helped raise over $140,000 in 11 years of JDRF Walks; has, solicited donations for JDRF with her mom at five Cincinnatians of the Year Galas; and even in elementary school, she organized a sale of JDRF bracelets that increased awareness of diabetes and raised several hundred dollars. In addition to her efforts with JDRF, Haley has been a competitive swimmer since she was seven. She also plays the clarinet, and was at the top of her class of 700 students last year. As a delegate, Haley says, "I hope to raise awareness about the critical need for additional funding for type 1 diabetes research."
