Hannah, diagnosed at age eight, encourages members of Congress to put themselves in the shoes of someone with type 1, and maybe even try an insulin pump. She works hard to teach others about diabetes and raise awareness. Her family has participated in and sponsored Walks and other events to raise money for research, and Hannah has delivered Bags of Hope to newly diagnosed children. This passion for working with children and belief in the importance of education led to Hannah's desire to become a kindergarten teacher. Recently, Hannah was diagnosed with celiac disease, making blood sugar management even more challenging. She was chosen as the "GRAD" (Get Real About Diabetes) star at her diabetes doctor's office for working so hard to control her blood sugar. She also takes Honors classes at school, and is active on her school's dance, puppet, and interpretive movement teams.
