Hydee always had one goal in mind: Never let T1D stop you from doing what you love. Since her diagnosis at age 10, she learned how to manage T1D and live her life to the fullest. She now thrives by performing as a competitive dancer, a student teacher at her local dance studio, and an NHRA-licensed Junior Street drag racer. Her insulin pump and CGM are proudly displayed when she is on stage performing or when she is racing so that others can see that diabetes doesn’t stop her. Hydee also enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, spending time outdoors, and shopping. She helps educate and support others about T1D, including her two cousins and one of her dance friends who were also diagnosed with T1D.
Hydee wants to see more affordable insulin and medical supplies for people living with T1D. In the future, she wants to become a pediatric endocrinologist to help other kids manage T1D or open her own dance studio that is inclusive for everyone, no matter their size, shape, disability, or difference.
