Age: 17
Age at T1D diagnosis: 10

Despite living with T1D, Jackson successfully balances his demanding schedule, thriving in both academics and extracurriculars. As a member of the varsity basketball and soccer teams, Jackson shows not only physical endurance but mental toughness as well. Jackson also contributes to his school’s drumline, rock band, and art programs. Jackson serves as a member of his school’s student council, where he helps organize events and advocate for student interests. When he finishes college, he wants to be an architect (something he has wanted to be since he was 13).

Jackson’s involvement with Breakthrough T1D led to him being the sole youth speaker at Oklahoma’s first Diabetes Advocacy Day and also a keynote speaker at the Diabetes Caucus meeting. His involvement has sparked a passion for public service, and he hopes to continue making a positive impact in his community.

Jackson demonstrates that challenges can be overcome with determination and a positive mindset. Whether on the court, in the classroom, or working with state officials, he is proof that you can achieve anything when you commit to your dreams and take charge of your health.
