Jacqi started the Nevada Chapter's first cycling team for the Ride to Cure Diabetes, for which she rode 109 miles and raised almost $10,000. She loves being athletic and challenging herself, and one day wants to compete in an Iron Woman Triathlon. She also wants to become a neuro-radiologist, to understand how the brain affects everything else. Diagnosed at age 12, Jacqi now realizes how many positive things she can do with diabetes, such as advocating for diabetes funding. "I want to prove to those who think that diabetes holds them back that they can accomplish great things," she says. Jacqi's appeared on three local television programs to promote a JDRF fundraiser, is active in the Youth Ambassador program, and was asked to be interviewed for Las Vegas Woman magazine's "Fearless Females of the Future" section. She wants Congress to encourage insurance companies to cover more diabetes supplies for families.
