When Jayme was 13, she and her mom participated in a JDRF Ride and the support she experienced was inspiring. “For the first time in my T1D life, I felt normal,” she said. Jayme’s outlet for overcoming the stresses and challenges of living with T1D are her creative hobbies, including baking, making jewelry, painting, and embroidery. She even crafts insulin pumps for local children with T1D to add to their dolls and stuffed animals!
Jayme plans on studying psychology in college so that she can help children struggling with illness. “I am more than T1D. I am creative and happy, smart and hardworking. I am different and unique, just like everyone else around me. This is how I want to be seen: as more than my disease.”
