Age: 9
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Keigan’s family left their home on December 1, 2011, heading to a restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Instead, they found themselves at the local hospital where three-year-old Keigan was diagnosed with T1D. Ever since, his family has worked tirelessly to advance T1D awareness and raise money for T1D research. Keigan and his younger brother, Caden, have walked in several JDRF One Walk events and participate in diabetes awareness videos. For Keigan, all the work is worthwhile because it moves us closer to new treatments and a cure for T1D. “I can’t wait for the day when I no longer have to prick my finger to test my blood sugar, count carbs, get insulin shots, or wear an insulin pump,” he says. “The thing I am most excited about is not having to worry about the horrible complications diabetes can cause as well as the scary low blood sugars.”
