Keira loves cooking, dance and baking. In fact, she’d like to own her own bakery when she grows up. In the meantime, she spends time advocating for T1D awareness and raising money for the JDRF Walk. Living with T1D can be difficult, she says, when it means missing classes to take care of her blood sugar or to get a shot. Yet Keira remains positive. “I’m also thankful that I have diabetes because I love going to the JDRF Walk, and I’m thankful for having diabetes because it keeps me active,” she says. She is attending JDRF Children’s Congress to meet other kids with T1D and to discuss the high cost of T1D supplies, such as insulin and test strips, with lawmakers.
