Age: 11
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Kennedy and her mom share more than the typical mother/daughter bond. The two of them also have T1D in common—as well as a commitment to seeing the disease eradicated. When Kennedy was diagnosed, the two marked the occasion by each getting an insulin pump to help manage their disease. Kennedy, a dancer and Girl Scout, formed her own JDRF One Walk team last year to participate in the Rochester chapter’s event. She participated in two clinical trials last year, both focused on calcium intake and metabolism in young people with T1D. Kennedy’s family also does its part for T1D research, with her younger brother participating in the TrialNet Natural History Study. Kennedy hopes to be a counselor at a diabetes camp when she grows up.
