Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 4

Talented athlete Kevin isn’t the only player on his All Star baseball team who has T1D. He and a teammate check their blood glucose after every inning and make necessary adjustments so that they can keep on playing. Yet Kevin doesn’t spend time feeling sorry. “I wish that there would be a cure for type 1 diabetes, but wishing for a cure will not help me. I hope that you can help me by making sure that the government will fund research for a cure.”

Kevin does spend time playing saxophone and baseball. He has won awards for his athletic prowess, including a Little League All Star distinction, among others, and for his advocacy, such as the 2011 Northeast Independent School District Superintendents Award for Diabetes Awareness. He looks forward to playing baseball in college.
