Lucy and her family are huge advocates for diabetes research. That's because Lucy was diagnosed when she was three, and a year later, her brother, Hayes, was diagnosed at age eight. "Our family has directly benefited from federal funding," says Lucy. Her brother completed participation in a two-year JDRF-funded clinical trial, and Lucy has helped newly diagnosed children, spoken with a Congresswoman about diabetes, and appeared in a diabetes fundraising video. She also assists her father with JDRF Board activities. Lucy enjoys meeting and helping others, which is why she wants to be a taxi driver one day. She has a wide range of hobbies, including soccer, tennis, swimming, and piano, and attends diabetes camps. As a delegate, Lucy wants to thank Congress for their support, and to meet and help other children who have diabetes.
