In December 2015, Matthew’s life took a significant turn when he was diagnosed with T1D. He vividly recalls looking out his hospital window, captivated by the bustling construction site below, and watching fireworks light up the night sky above Regions Field. Today, Matthew shares an inspiring message with everyone he meets, whether they have diabetes or not: “Live fully and never let diabetes define you. You are so much stronger than it is.”

Matthew loves to ski. On a winter trip to Vail, he accomplished an exciting milestone by skiing his first double black diamond run. At home, whenever Matthew changes his Omnipod, his dad gives him a warm bear hug, tapping along to the clicks of the device as it injects.

Matthew has always been captivated by history. He seizes every opportunity to travel, visiting some of the most historic places worldwide, and challenges himself by taking every advanced history class available. This passion fuels his dream of one day becoming a history professor or legislator, allowing him to share his love for the past while shaping the future.
