Max was diagnosed with type 1 when he was three. Every year, Max's family marks his "diabetes anniversary" with a fun activity, like riding roller coasters, to celebrate everyone's hard work in helping to manage his diabetes. Max talks openly to his school class about diabetes every year, so that his peers can learn about the disease and be understanding when he tests his blood sugar. But Max and his family go beyond educating others – "Max's Superheroes" raise about $10,000 every year in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes. Max loves reading, skiing, fantasy football, and playing baseball, soccer, and football. He is also learning to play the piano. "I work hard at taking care of myself and I don't let diabetes stop me from doing what I want to do," he says. As a delegate, Max wants to talk to Congress about what it's like to live with diabetes.
