An aspiring pediatric endocrinologist, Nathan dreams of a world with no need for such a profession – a world free of diabetes. An outspoken advocate for diabetes awareness, Nathan is active in his JDRF chapter, and is an open book about what it's like to live with type 1. "The more people that I can ‘share' this with, the better for all of us," he says. Nathan also participates in the Ride to Cure Diabetes, and has completed three 100-mile bike rides. Nathan enjoys mentoring newly diagnosed children. "I want them to know that it is possible to live a good life despite a life-threatening illness," he says. He believes research will continue to improve life for people with diabetes. His late grandmother was diagnosed at age seven, and often told him how much better treatments are today. Nathan takes that to heart when urging Congress to continue funding scientific progress.
