Philip is a junior in high school who plays volleyball and basketball. He also really loves driving, he says, “I am a typical teenager in most ways, except I have type 1 diabetes.” T1D advocacy is a family affair his parents and siblings, who are very involved with their local chapter. In addition to taking part in JDRF One Walk and JDRF Galas, the family has also helped organize two major fundraising events that raised close to $30,000 for T1D research. Philip also raises awareness by giving interviews on TV and the radio. He says, “Living with type 1 diabetes is a constant challenge but I strive to approach my responsibilities with a positive attitude. Sometimes I think I fool people into thinking it is easy but that isn’t the truth.”
