Age: 15
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

Presley-Kate (PK) has been an avid competitive swimmer since she was 6. She trains and swims year-round with a recreational swim team, her high school swim team, and a summer club team. She holds several club records with her summer swim team and recently competed in her state’s high school swim meet. PK’s greatest loves are her pet dogs, spending time at the beach, and hanging out with her family and friends.

PK was diagnosed with T1D in June 2019, just one month after she turned 9. A family friend who also lives with T1D brought PK a care package when she was discharged from the hospital to brighten her spirits. Presley-Kate has since paid it forward to other newly diagnosed kids by sending out T1D care packages with a letter of encouragement to help others through this time in their lives.

PK has been under the care of some amazing school nurses who have mentored her as she learned to care for herself. Her family continues to advocate for school nurses to monitor and manage all children living with T1D while in school.
