Education is important to Sadie—especially educating the public about what it means to have T1D. “It is amazing how few people know about T1D or confuse it with type 2,” she says. She does her best to inform others by reaching out to classmates, delivering a presentation after she was diagnosed with the disease, serving as a JDRF Youth Ambassador and participating in the JDRF Hope Ball in Delaware. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer and of having a family of her own someday with the help of a cure. “A cure would make this much easier because I wouldn’t want my kids to have to go through what I do. My future and the future of others with T1D depend on decisions we make today.”
