Words are a big part of Sarah's life; she loves to write and has a knack for finding the words to express herself. However, the words "Insulin Dependent," printed on the front of her driver's license, aren't ones she chose.

Words are a big part of Sarah's life; she loves to write and has a knack for finding the words to express herself. However, the words "Insulin Dependent," printed on the front of her driver's license, aren't ones she chose. Diagnosed at age nine, Sarah knows what it's like to grow up with diabetes, from traumatic experiences like the myoclonic seizure she once had at a sleepover, to daily annoyances like having to check her blood sugar before driving. These challenges spurred Sarah to promote awareness in her community, raising money during Walks and speaking about diabetes to her local Kiwanis Club. The organization paid for Sarah to attend Florida Diabetes Camp, which helped her manage her diabetes. An Honor student, Sarah enjoys photography and volunteering with the Key Club, for which she is Vice President. She urges Congress to help raise understanding of diabetes, and to continue funding research.
