When she was diagnosed at age 10, Sarah says all she knew about type 1 was that Nick Jonas had it. Since then, she has learned a lot about the disease and says she is grateful to the doctors at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), who have guided her in managing her diabetes. Sarah is now on an insulin pump and participates in a clinical trial to prolong the "honeymoon period" in which the body continues to produce some insulin. Sarah knows that education is key in the fight against diabetes. She and her parents educate friends and classmates, and she was interviewed about life with diabetes for a short movie for the UCSF Diabetes Center's 10th anniversary. Sarah hopes the movie helped viewers realized that diabetes, although challenging, is manageable. Sarah plays piano, runs cross country, and enjoys acting in Shakespeare plays. She wants to become an author or a teacher.
