Age at T1D diagnosis: 5
Sean was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just after turning 5 years old. Since his diagnosis, he has encountered people who have misconceptions about what it means to live with T1D. Many people still confuse it with type 2 diabetes. Like everyone, he should eat generally healthy food, but he can also enjoy life without unnecessary restrictions. He likes to remind people that poisoned cookies are the only thing he can’t eat! By sharing stories and experiences, those with T1D can foster greater awareness, understanding, and support.
Sean is involved in many athletic pursuits, including rugby, swimming, karate, and cross country. He also has an interest in technology and problem-solving. Sean has competed in the First LEGO League for the past four years and has started pursuing his interest in robotics. In addition, Sean finds joy in the world of strategy and storytelling through participation in Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. Sean has various skills and interests, but through it all, he doesn’t forget the importance of advocating for people with T1D.
