Seth loves art, science, and music. He recently started a daily school art competition with his classmates. Seth plays a wide variety of musical instruments, including the bassoon, harp, and piano. He loves participating in jazz band, even though the before-school practices mean he has to wake up early. Seth is also studying French and likes to practice with his family. Seth is part of a community-wide group of youth scientists who meet monthly to brainstorm how to improve the community. This year, they are focused on recycling.

Seth was diagnosed with T1D on his tenth birthday. Even though “it was the worst birthday a person could have, it changed me for the better,” says Seth. He thinks that even though T1D can be a burden, it can help people understand life better, both “the good and the bad.” Seth works with the school nurse when she has to educate the teachers and staff about T1D. He also helps his friend, who was recently diagnosed with T1D. As an animal lover, Seth also says, “My cat Ralph helps me through it all; he understands!”
