Sierra loves sports and exercise and keeps herself active on a traveling softball team and the track team (the long jump is her favorite). She’s also very involved in her church community. Sierra is in a club at school that explores medical fields and jobs, which has led to her aspiration of becoming a trauma surgeon. Sierra always had an interest in medicine, but when she was diagnosed with T1D, it really pushed her to want to help others.
She’s very excited by T1D technology, especially her new continuous glucose monitor. She got involved with JDRF to find community, and she educates others about life with T1D through posting on social media and speaking in front of her school and at JDRF events. Sierra is proud to be an advocate for herself as well as her dad who was diagnosed with T1D as a child. “I want an opportunity to show the world that we’re bigger than our disease.”
