Timmy, diagnosed at age four, admits that diabetes can be scary but stays strong and positive for his family. "We are a team and we fight this disease together," he says. Timmy is committed to helping people through the challenges of type 1, especially his younger sister, who also has the disease. He does this by mentoring and learning from others with diabetes, actively participating in the JDRF Walk (for which he's helped raise over $40,000), volunteering at fundraising events, and writing letters to encourage donations. Timmy enjoys cars, swimming, reading, cooking, and playing outside. He wants to continue communicating with other children who have diabetes. As a delegate, Timmy hopes to learn what Congress is doing for diabetes research and what more he and others can do to help.
