Madelyn is a junior in high school and a competitive dancer. She excels both inside and outside of the classroom through her involvement in volunteer work at her church, dance studio, local hospital, and community. She spends her evenings learning various dance styles and competes against other dancers as a group and individual in the spring. Madelyn’s passion for working with children, love of science and math, and connection to healthcare have inspired her to work in pediatric medicine in the future.
Madelyn has unofficially attended diabetes camp with her mom since she was a baby. Shortly after camp in 2011, Madelyn was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, beginning her personal diabetes journey. She started tagging along at Camp Needles in the Pines as a child with diabetes when she was 4. Madelyn officially became a camper when she was 8 and now uses her position as a teenager with diabetes to be a Counselor-in-Training and role model for younger children with diabetes.
