Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 1

Preston was diagnosed with T1D when he was 16 months old. Living with T1D his whole life, Preston learned how to be responsible and take care of his T1D at a very young age. Preston is forever grateful for the medical staff that supported him through his T1D journey, which drives him to want to pursue a career in medicine. Preston is a part of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). This year, his HOSA competition is a health career display, and he will present on diabetic endocrinology. His family has participated in Seattle’s Beat the Bridge (BTB) for 14 years. Last year, Preston served as a BTB Ambassador, where he got to share his T1D story and raise awareness at local corporate and public events.

Preston loves playing tennis and won his high school MVP award last season. He and his family watch Jeopardy! almost every night. His favorite categories include Biology, Chemistry, Geography, and Pop Culture. He also enjoys watching reality television like “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race.” Preston will keep fighting for a cure for T1D so he can one day participate.
